SOFT SKILLS 

ORDERS, COMMANDS, REQUESTS





     
     When we want to get the things done by someone. The way of saying to them to do is of different kinds.

     Here we use the 1st form of Main Verb in Positive and in Negative we use 'don't'.

    Here as we talk to the second person directly face to face, using the sub 'you' is optional. It may be or may not be used according to our wish.


Examples:

ORDERS, COMMANDS:

    Come here
    Don't come here
    Keep up your word.
    Don't keep back anything.
    Be calm.
    Don't be calm.


SUGGESTION:

    Try to come here.
    Try to play.
    Try to keep up your words.


POLITE WAY:    To give orders in polite way we use 'Please'.

Examples:

    Please come here.
    Please try to talk.
    Please go there.
    Please don't irritate me.
    Please don't trouble anybody.


REQUESTS:  For the requests we use four verbs like:


  • Will
  • Can
  • Would
  • Could



'Will / Can' are used for Polite requests.

'Would' is used to request the people in more polite manner.

'Could' is used to request in most polite manner.


NOTE:  If we use would and could in the places of will and can wherever 
            they are used our expression is polished.


Examples:

POLITE REQUESTS:

    Will you please wait for some time?
    Will you please drop me at Railway station?

    Can you please help me?
    Can you please move aside?


MORE POLITE REQUESTS:

    Would you please spare me 2 minutes?
    Would you please lend me $1000.
    Would you please hold your tongue?


MOST POLITE REQUESTS:

    Could you please take leave?
    Could you please sign here?
    Could you please let me talk?


REPETITION OF ORDERS, COMMANDS AND REQUESTS:

     While repeating the orders, requests etc in indirect way, what we said, ordered, commanded or requested to do (or) not to do we use the infinitive "To" as its connector in the positive expressions and in negative expressions we use "Not to".


Examples: 

    She told me to talk.    She told me not to talk.
    They requested me to help.
    They requested me not to help.
    I ordered them to go.
    I ordered them not to go.
    My friend forced me to come for movie.
    My father suggested me to do M.C.A.
    The doctor suggested my mother not to take nap at noon.
    He compelled me to attend the party.
    I cautioned them not to smoke in public places.

    Who told you to come here?
    Nobody told me to come here.
    Who requested you to help?
    When did they ask you to come?


OBJECT RULE:  

    I was asked to come.
    He was ordered to finish the work.
    She was requested to help.
    They were forced to do that work.
    I was suggested to take medicine regularly.
    Rama was requested to assist this work.
