CONJUNCTIONS



The meanings and the examples as follows:


THAT:  It is used to join two sentences and thoughts, beliefs, expectations and hopes.


Examples:

       He learns English that he can talk.
     She takes medicine that she can be recovered.
     I know that he can drive a car.
     I think that he has confidence.
     I hope that they help me.
     I believe that I can reach my goal.
     They say that you are lazy.
     I don't know that he is habituated to drinking.




IF / WHETHER - OR:

     These are useful to ask the Questions in indirect way. When the question is asked by raising the doubt we use "If", but when we raise both positive and negative doubts we use "Whether - or".

Examples:

      Tell me if you are busy.
    Tell me whether you are busy or not.

      Please inquire if there is discount in that shop.
    Please inquire whether there is discount in that shop or not.

      Please see if she is talking.
    Please see whether she is talking or not.

    And also there are useful to express our thoughts, hopes etc, as follows:



Examples:

     I don't know whether he speaks or not.
    Do you know whether they are learning English or not.
      I don't know whether he got the job or not.


Questioning Words:  
     These are useful to ask the Informative Questions in indirect way and to related two or more sentences.


NOTE:  While using the Questioning words as Conjunctions we must use sentences after them. But while using them to Question anyone in a direct way we use Question rule after them.





Examples:

     Where are you?  (D.Q)
   Tell me where you are.  (I.D.Q)
   Tell me what you are doing.

     How can you finish it?
   Tell me how you can finish it.

   To relate the thoughts we use them as follows:

     According to the meanings and to which they are related, they are considered as Adverb clauses or Noun clauses also.




Examples:

    He is the person who got the 1st prize.
    The bike what I bought is nice.
    Do you know why he is learning English?
    They story what you wrote is well.
    The medicine which you took gives you good result.
    I can prove the mistake what he did.
    I am repeating the words what you said to me.
    I can't explain how I did it.
    Do you know where they went?
    I can't digest how that foolish got the prize.
    I don't know when you finished it.
    The project what took up is not good for you.
    I will submit in a few minutes how much I finish it.
