Chromebooks use solid-state drives and the operating system does not load on the computer hence it is very quick to start. This is not the case with a heavy-duty OS like Windows it uses hard drives.
The solid-state drives are generally small, 16GB or 32GB and that's where the cloud comes in. There is no need for a hard drive if your material is stored in the cloud and not on the computer. The only drawback of a Chromebook is it needs to be connected to the internet, so you need to be near a network connection or Wi-Fi access.
Chromebooks also work offline but requires few additional steps that we are not used to because your non-Chrome computer does not require them. Chromebooks simply are not built as storage devices.
There are few drawbacks of Chromebooks. They are not speed at computing; it cannot be used for creating complex Word documents or demanding spreadsheets; it can not store all your photos to access them you need to go online, and you will need network access to get them and you can not edit them. Chromebooks are not at their best in watching movies or looking at the pictures.
After few tests on seven models of Chromebooks Acer's 11.6-inch combined with its light 2.7-pound weight Chromebook AcerC720-2848 that is sold for $225 had the longest battery life at 10.74 hours also made it the most portable.
Performance was good, which was similar with a couple of $300 models we tested.
For little more display 14-inch model HP Chromebook 14q010nr is worth a look that is sold for $300 had the similar battery life like that of Acer at 10.5 hours. But of course it's bigger so its weighs 4.1. pounds and performance was also good. Efficient people prefer for a larger size which are better than smaller models.
Few Chromebooks come with touchscreens but Chrome was not built as a touch operating system.
If you want to store and share huge docs online for a highly portable laptop the best useful tool you can use is a Chromebook with Google Drive.
