HOW TO SAY OUR 'POSITION' BY USING VERBS PART - 1

POSITION

When we convey the Present position of us whether it is Physical or Minded or Financial or Socialistic we should use the Present "Be" forms like "am, is, are" related to Past we should use "Was, Were".

Like wise when we convey our position without guarantee we should use 13 Modal Auxiliaries + 1st form of the M.V.

SUB                                                  PRESENT                           PAST

I                                               Am                                Was

He         Singular                         Is                                 Was
She          -do-                            Is                                 Was
It            -do-                             Is                                 Was

We        Plural                             Are                               Were
You         -do-
They       -do-

     Coming to Modal Auxiliaries:

Will / Shall:  Says about Future (means the next moment of the time of
                  our speaking)

May / Might:These say the Probability. When we say something with 50-50 chances, that is called Probability. Generally in the Present we say 'May', and in Past Views we use 'Might'.

NOTE:
  •  In the Present Views we use 'might' in the place of 'may' one side it gives least guarantee, on the other side it polishes our expression to make it polite also.
Can / Could:  Generally these two say our "Ability" means our confidence. In them 'can' is used in Present, 'could' is used in Past.

NOTE:
But in the place of 'can' we can use 'could' also in Present. Then it gives lesser guarantee than 'can' on one side, on the other side it polishes our expression to make it polite also.

Should / Ought to / Must:  Generally these are used to convey our Responsibilities or Obligations. Most of the times 'should' is generally in Spoken language, 'Ought to' is used in written language.

Here 'should' is used to convey higher grade of responsibilities and 'must' is used to convey the highest grade of responsibilities.

Used to / Would:  These two are used to convey our past habits, here past habits means the works or the position that we maintained up-to some extent in Past and stopped in Past.

Need to:  It is used to convey our "Necessity".

Dare to:  It is used to convey our "Bravery".

NOTE:
  • Shall / May are not used to ask the Questions as they are used to take permissions from the others. So, in the place of them we use "Will / Might".
